This theatre was built in 1921. After the 1952 Revolution it was renamed Sayed Darwish Theatre in commemoration of one of Arab music's pioneers. In 2000, the Ministry of Cultrure decided to place the building on Egypt's Heritage List. After a "remarkable and miraculous restoration", this 1200-seat theatre has been opened to the public at the beginning of 2004.
